Mikkelborg Client To Receive $1 Million Donation
February 26th, 2007

Hinds Hospice has announced that they have been named the recipients of a $1 million gift that Mr. and Mrs. Byrum and Wanda Bingham will be donating to the organization.

After several meetings with Nancy Hinds and the fund development team at Hinds Hospice, Mr. & Mrs. Bingham decided to choose Hinds Hospice for this generous gift for various reasons; family experience with hospice care, Nancy Hinds’ philosophy of care and pioneer efforts in offering unique hospice care, and wanting to ensure the organization is here to care for others well into the future.

Mr. Bingham shared the unique and specialized hospice care his family experienced with the passing of three of his brothers in the Sacramento area. Those experiences, and an appreciation for the mission at Hinds Hospice, led the Bingham’s to feel very comfortable with their decision.

“I feel that Hinds Hospice is a very good charity,” said Mr. Bingham. “My wife Wanda and I have always been admirers of hospice work in general, that done by Hinds Hospice, and other agencies like it. I hope this gift inspirers others to think about giving back to the wonderful charities in our community as well,” he said.

The gift of $1 million is going to be given in one lump sum with intentions of planting the seed for the future growth of Hinds Hospice, as it plans to serve the communities of Fresno, Madera and Merced counties for generations to come.

“The Bingham’s are a unique couple and they, as well as their gift, are a huge blessing to Hinds Hospice,” said Nancy Hinds, Founder of Hinds Hospice. “My wish is for that blessing to be returned in beautiful ways to both of them. It gives tremendous hope to my hospice heart. This gift will help us plan for our future in a way I never imagined might be possible,” she added.

Established in 1981, the mission of Hinds Hospice is to uphold the dignity and ease the suffering of the terminally ill while supporting their loved ones and those who are grieving. Hinds Hospice serves the Fresno, Madera and Merced county areas with numerous hospice care services.

Hinds Hospice (www.hindshospice.org) maintains the only inpatient Hospice Home (a model used by other hospices) serving Fresno, Madera and Merced counties; provides an extensive pediatric hospice program for infants and children; provides services for families experiencing pregnancy loss and infant death (termed Angel Babies/Bebitos Angelitos); provides individual and group counseling through the Hinds Hospice Center for Grief and Loss; formally educates (on end-of-life care) Family Practice and Pediatric Residents from the University of California, San Francisco, the University of California, Davis and Childrens Hospital Central California, as well as nursing students; and is the only hospice organization offering this wide array of services in the San Joaquin Valley.

Hinds Hospice serves over 1,100 patients and over 5,500 family members per year in the three county area it serves. The organization currently has 140 employees and an annual operating budget of $7.35 million.
