Lawyers and Doctors Work to Reform Medical Quality Assurance Commission
April 11th, 2006
According to an article that appeared in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on April 10, 2006, medical malpractice lawyers and doctors alike are looking at the possibility of the Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission undergoing reformation. Normally odd bedfellows, the two groups tend to agree that reform would be in order, even if for different reasons. While patient safety is an underlying concern of both groups, the personal injury attorneys want reform that will provide tougher enforcement procedures against really bad doctors. The medical profession wants reform to make the disciplinary process more fair so that it will not be such an all or nothing proposition even when relatively minor charges are involved. Even thought it is too early to say where things will ultimately end up, the call for reform seems to be gaining momentum.
